I like my Internship Page the best. I feel like my idea for the video will turn out really cool. I feel like my Bakery Page is the worst of the three, but I'm not really sure why. If I had to pick for one wish to come true, it would have to be the bakery wish.
WISH 1: Dreaming of a Bakery
A bakery, something I could call my own, would be my first wish. Gina Martelli from bakeryguidebook.com says, “A bakery is a wonderful business. There's nothing like the smell of baked goods cooking in the oven. Then, there's the thrill of seeing your customers enjoying your baking. For anyone that loves to bake, has a passion for the kitchen and enjoys the art of food, owning a bakery will be right for you.” Just like everyone’s American dream of owning that cute house with a white picket fence, I want to own that cute little bakery, selling cakes and cupcakes. For my first wish, I would wish for my own bakery. It wouldn’t be a normal bakery either because not everyone can have everything so it would be a nut free baking environment and some gluten free cakes would be sold as well. I don’t want that house with a white picket fence, I want that cute little bakery at the corner.
WHY: Doing What Makes Me Happy
Being in a bakery, whether it is my own or someone else’s, means I can do what makes me happy. The bakery being my own means I can have a say in the way a cake or cupcake looks. Almost every time I drive by Hodell’s Cake Shop on Harper, it makes me sad. The cakes they have in the showcase are plain, and honestly, really boring. If I owned a bakery, I could make fun, colorful, and creative cakes, or if a customer wants, a plain and boring one. My American dream is to own a bakery, but not an ordinary one. I want to show my support for others like me or my mom. I’m an anaphylactic and my mom is gluten-intolerant. My bakery would be nut free, and if we did use any kind of nut, it would be made special away from the rest of the baking. My bakery would also have gluten free items for those like my mom.
WISH 2: Dreaming of Greatness
Every person wishes to get better at something since no one is perfect, and someone is always looking for a hobby or a job. Cake decorating is an easy and fun thing to do. According to cake-decorating-info.com, making beautiful cakes that look like they came from the fancy bakery around the corner is not as hard as it looks. All it takes is a few inexpensive tools and practice. My second wish would be becoming a great cake decorator. There is always room for improvement, so as a cake decorator, I want to aim higher and be great at cake decorating.
WHY: Aiming for Success
To me, being successful would be everything. I want to have a family someday and own a bakery. Success will keep those dreams alive. I haven’t been decorating cakes for very long, but I believe it got me on the right track. I finally started thinking about the future instead of the past. Before I thought about what I used to want to be when I grew up, and then I started cake decorating and realized what I had been wanting, wasn’t real. I loved cake decorating the first day I started. I feel like cake decorating brought me closer to my dad’s side of the family. At the Beirne family Christmas party we have each year, I was always the quietest one there. Now, everyone talks to me and asks what the Christmas cake looks like, or what I’m doing for the cake next year. My Aunt Terie and I almost always make cakes and cupcakes together. We’re really good at working together because we usually need each other. She’s the baker, and I’m the decorator. Together, we’re great at creating cake masterpieces.
WISH 3: Dreaming of Better
To make my dreams come true, I believe there’s one American-like thing that can help: an internship. According to businessinsider.com, “Every year between one and two million Americans work as interns.” Obviously, other people feel as though internships can help them too. As my third wish, I want to do an internship with Buddy Valastro so I can hopefully become a good enough cake decorator to own a successful bakery. Doing an internship could be the first step to becoming successful in your career. I believe anything is possible so I believe in doing an internship.
WHY: The Outer Edges of the Puzzle
An internship is the first piece of what I can see as being my career. Almost every person I know does the outside edges of a puzzle first. Buddy Valastro is my idol and is what got me into cake decorating. It would be an ultimate goal of mine to meet him and be able to learn from him. In my opinion, an internship is the last piece of the puzzle to being successful. My mom isn’t really thrilled with what she does for a living. I don’t want to be like that though. I want to be successful and able to do what I love so I grow old being happy. My mom's job has turned her into someone who goes to work just to get paid to make a living. She comes home and mopes around and complains about her work. But she didn't do anything in her childhood to get her where she wants to be. I don't want to be like that. I want to be able to go to work and come home with a paycheck and a smile on my face, not someone who mopes around depressed.
I think my website turned out pretty good for it being the first one I've ever made. I think now that I have a better understanding of how to create one, I can make an even better website. My favorite feature is the quote and genie center picture. My least favorite feature is my banner. I would rate my website at an 8 because I think I can improve some things.
I really like Alana Matt's website. I think she did a really good job with her color scheme and tying the website together.
Erin Pavlina once said, “There’s a genie inside of you waiting to hear your three wishes; in fact, he may already be granting your wishes even if you don’t realize you’re making them.” I don’t need a genie to have luck; I just need a boost, something that motivates me to set goals for myself and help me aim to achieve them. When I was given a chance to create a website with the theme of Genie in a Bottle: Three Wishes, I couldn’t wait to get started. It’s not every day that you are given such an opportunity. Anyways, I was finishing cake decorating one day, when I decided to try one of the cupcakes I had made. I had been extremely proud because I had managed to make cupcakes look like hamburgers; they even had a little toothpick in them. When I picked one up and pulled out the toothpick, a genie flowed out through the little hole left from the toothpick and offered me three wishes. I knew what I have always wanted, and when I thought more in depth, I realized there were three things that revolved around one: cake decorating. I remembered how I had wanted to own a successful bakery that I could call my own. I knew that to do it, I would need to be an outstanding cake decorator to survive in today’s economy. My idol, Buddy Valastro (Cake Boss), could teach me to be an extraordinary cake decorator, and so an internship could really help me. I hope my website helps others realize that wishes can come true; you just have to believe in the genie inside of you.
The article is called Three Wishes by Erin Pavlina. The topic of the article was: If you could have three wishes, what would they be? The only person you have the right to change is yourself, so don’t change the world. Erin Pavlina realized the genie in the lamp is actually inside of you. You are the genie in your own life. You need thoughtful wishes and if you work hard toward them, you’ll grant your own wishes.
I agree with Erin Pavlina. Only you can grant your wishes. A genie is inside of you but you need to work hard to earn your wishes. People who don’t work hard, are not just going to stumble upon a $1 million. Hard working people can achieve their goals. Isn’t that what wishes really are, just goals that you want accomplished?
I am choosing the theme of cake decorating. One of my wishes would be to do an internship with Buddy Valastro. I want to learn more techniques from him. My second wish would be to own a successful bakery. My goal is to own a bakery and be a cake decorator. My third wish would be to become a successful cake decorator. If I’m going to decorate cakes, I want to make others happy with the product.
