#20: Tell me why the job you selected (journal #11) connects to your career. If yours doesn’t seem to link, it can, with a bit of imagination. Tell me how. Ex: Even though a high school teacher doesn’t seem to relate to the job of a waitress, it can. I had to help customers with their dinner selection, answer questions, give great service, deal with complaints, and become more interpersonal.

The title of this article is “Teacher Defends Insulting Blog Posts About Her Students: ‘I Hear the Trash Company is Hiring’.” The authors of this article are Andrea Canning and Olivia Katrandjian. The topic of this article is what happens when you post things online that you shouldn’t say. The fact is, Natalie Munroe was suspended with pay for trash talking online. Employers look you up and check your social media. I don’t agree with what happened. She should not have received pay. She not only trash talked about students, but about teachers and administrators as well. She should be suspended without pay. The teacher that locked students in a cage should be expelled. I would think that Natalie Munroe should be expelled, but what she did was not as bad as the teacher that locked kids in a cage. I do not personally know someone, but I see people on Facebook and Twitter trash talking each other all the time. They shouldn’t be saying stuff online. If you shouldn’t say it in person, why say it at all? The people who trash talk and fight on Facebook don’t really care about school or anything that should matter. I will be more careful about what I post on my social media accounts. I post stupid stuff and don’t like to get in where there’s tension. If I’m not a part of it, I’m not joining in. I will make sure I don’t post anything bad. I want to be hired because I need experience. I don’t want to be fired or not hired because of my social media. This article is related to Chapter 6 because Chapter 6 is about finding a job. Employers look up your name and if they see your Facebook or Twitter or anything, they’re going to look at it. The school found her Facebook and she was suspended. limbo (http://definr.com/limbo) n 1: the state of being disregarded or forgotten [syn: oblivion] 2: an imaginary place for lost or neglected things 3: (theology) the abode of infants who die before baptism caricature (http://definr.com/caricature) n : a representation of a person that is exaggerated for comic effect [syn: imitation, impersonation] v : represent in or produce a caricature of; "The drawing caricatured the President" [syn: ape] #19: If you were a parent, would you make your child friend you on Facebook? Do you think this is a good idea? Explain your reasoning! I would not make my child friend me. I would check their profile once in a while. It is not a good idea because they won't feel like they can post what they want. I don't want them to feel like they can't say how they feel because their parent will see it. I hate that I can't post the way I feel or silly statuses because my parent takes everything wrong. #18: Part I: Google your name. The search will work better if you use quotation marks around your name. Do you have an online presence? Tell me what you found! Part II: Think about the specific “footprints” or information you leave behind on the sites on your map (such as what you viewed, typed, or accessed). If this was the only information someone had about you, what would they think about you? What assumptions would they make about your habits & behaviors? I found my Facebook account, my picture, and my Weebly site are places you can visit of mine. The people who have seen the sites I visit would think I'm boring. I never really go on the internet. I only use the internet to do assignments, play games, and check my Facebook. They would think I'm a gamer. #17: Download and read this: Words for Teens. What do you think of John Tapene’s words? Are they fair? As a whole, do you believe teenagers are leaving a positive stamp on this world? Why? Are you? I think his words are somewhat fair. I study and study and when I have time for fun, I use it. I do not believe teenagers are leaving a positive stamp on this world. My dad drives through Detroit for work and sees all the garbage and graffiti. All that damage can't be from just adults. I leave a positive stamp. I don't litter, I clean up the yard and my neighbor's yard because #16: One of the items from the article 10 Things I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Went Into the Real World is You need to tend to your spiritial, emotional, and physical health or you will crash hard. In your free time, what is one of your favorite activities that puts you in a relaxation state and/or allows you to focus on you. The mall? Music? Movie? Friends? Phone? Ex: I enjoy taking Isabella for walks. She is such a curious girl who enjoys running, immediately followed by falling, everywhere. I also adore her laugh. Bad days just do not exist with her in my life. I love to go bowling. Bowling always seems to make me calm down. I always look forward to Saturday because that's when I go bowling. I never have bad Saturdays, only every other day of the week. The title of the article is “10 Things I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Went Into the Real World”. The author of this article is Chris Widener. This article is about life and the real world. It’s about things Chris wishes he had known before he went into the real world. The article is related to our current chapter because we are learning about jobs and careers. This article gives people an idea about the real world and what happens in the job worlds that we are going into. I agree with #1: Life Isn’t Fair. To be honest, it really isn’t. In group projects, my friends expect me to do most of the work. I always do because I don’t want a bad grade because of them. In Mandarin, three of my friends and I made a video for our final. One of them actually tried to help do the work. She did the second most amount of work. Another one of them tried but she wasn’t very good at it like we were. The fourth person in the group did about 1/7 of the work the rest of us did and still got the same grade. I have to agree with #1 because it is so true. Life really isn’t fair no matter what is going on. When I grow up to be a baker, I will use this information because baking won't be fair. When I first start out, I may be stuck cleaning the pans and that doesn't have anything to do with baking. But I just started and someone who's been there for years may be actually baking. I will use this information to stop complaining about life. Life is never going to be fair so why complain? I am going to live my life being calm and never complaining. I won’t complain about the work I get when I go into the job world. This article applies to our chapter and the workplace because it is a list of things you should know when you get into the real world. I’m glad I saw the list before I graduated and started my first job. realist (http://definr.com/realist) n 1: a philosopher who believes that universals are real and exist independently of anyone thinking of them 2: a painter who represents the world realistically and not in an idealized or romantic style disenchanted (http://definr.com/disenchanted) adj : freed from enchantment [ant: enchanted] #15: Which career would you possibly consider in the future? In 3-5 sentences, please sell this career to me. Make me want to quit being a technology teacher and work as a ___ instead. Convince me. I’m waiting! Ex: You should pursue a career as a teacher because you have the power to change lives in unimaginable ways. You can dance, sing, and write comedy to entertain your audience. Looking like a complete dork is actually cool. And the best part? You get to see hundreds of success stories shared through email and as students return to visit. You should pursue a career as a baker because it will make people happy. You can make wedding cakes so people have the best wedding memories. You can make birthday cakes or cupcakes to make someone's birthday extra special. The best part is seeing the joy of others and yourself as you do what you lo #14: We have discussed your exploratory interview. Who do you plan on completing this portfolio assignment with? What is their career? What is one perk and one drawback of their occupation? Obviously, these are just guesses! I plan on using my Aunt Terie to complete this assignment. She works in an office but does baking as a hobby on the side. One perk is that she does what I want to go into. One drawback is that she doesn't actually do baking as an occupation. She knows the business industry and answers phones at her work so she can teach me proper ways of answering phones for a business. #13: Describe a super cool lesson that a teacher/coach taught. What made it memorable? One paragraph (5-7 sentences), please. A super cool lesson that a coach taught me was as long as you try, you can do it. He use to make us swim across the pool, which is 25 yards long, without coming up for air. I always thought that I wouldn't be able to do it. I was actually able to do it. It took me most of my 6th grade swim season, but I was finally able to do it. I use his lesson now in everything I do. I always try and I usually can accomplish whatever I try for. |
