If I had a say in a theme, it would be All About You(me). I think people would have an easier time writing a page about them. It could have at least 6 pages. You would have a home page, heritage, early life, now, future, and a credits page. It would be for your entire life. I would have actually preferred that website theme to have been my first, just so I can get a sample of web designing.
Q: If you could pick any favorite dessert that you could make or try to make, what would it be?
A: My favorite dessert to make is cakes because there is so much you can do to them. Cupcakes only have so much surface area that you can cover, but cakes come in so many sizes. Q: How old were you when you started baking? A: I had just turned 13 years old when I started cake decorating and I am now 15 years old. Q: Do you bake just for your family and for fun or do you actually sell your product now? A: I started just baking for my family and for fun, but now that I've been doing more, people are asking me to make them cakes or cupcakes and they'll pay me. I haven't sold anything just yet, but that is my next step. I like my Internship Page the best. I feel like my idea for the video will turn out really cool. I feel like my Bakery Page is the worst of the three, but I'm not really sure why. If I had to pick for one wish to come true, it would have to be the bakery wish.
From taking this class, I have learned how to be independent in my learning and ask questions that will lead me to the answer, without giving me the exact answer. Web Design has given me a different outlook on some teachers. This class has allowed me to see that I like to take the challenging classes. Next year, I want to take Advanced Web Design. When I go to college, I want to major in Web Design. WISH 1: Dreaming of a Bakery
A bakery, something I could call my own, would be my first wish. Gina Martelli from bakeryguidebook.com says, “A bakery is a wonderful business. There's nothing like the smell of baked goods cooking in the oven. Then, there's the thrill of seeing your customers enjoying your baking. For anyone that loves to bake, has a passion for the kitchen and enjoys the art of food, owning a bakery will be right for you.” Just like everyone’s American dream of owning that cute house with a white picket fence, I want to own that cute little bakery, selling cakes and cupcakes. For my first wish, I would wish for my own bakery. It wouldn’t be a normal bakery either because not everyone can have everything so it would be a nut free baking environment and some gluten free cakes would be sold as well. I don’t want that house with a white picket fence, I want that cute little bakery at the corner. WHY: Doing What Makes Me Happy Being in a bakery, whether it is my own or someone else’s, means I can do what makes me happy. The bakery being my own means I can have a say in the way a cake or cupcake looks. Almost every time I drive by Hodell’s Cake Shop on Harper, it makes me sad. The cakes they have in the showcase are plain, and honestly, really boring. If I owned a bakery, I could make fun, colorful, and creative cakes, or if a customer wants, a plain and boring one. My American dream is to own a bakery, but not an ordinary one. I want to show my support for others like me or my mom. I’m an anaphylactic and my mom is gluten-intolerant. My bakery would be nut free, and if we did use any kind of nut, it would be made special away from the rest of the baking. My bakery would also have gluten free items for those like my mom. WISH 2: Dreaming of Greatness Every person wishes to get better at something since no one is perfect, and someone is always looking for a hobby or a job. Cake decorating is an easy and fun thing to do. According to cake-decorating-info.com, making beautiful cakes that look like they came from the fancy bakery around the corner is not as hard as it looks. All it takes is a few inexpensive tools and practice. My second wish would be becoming a great cake decorator. There is always room for improvement, so as a cake decorator, I want to aim higher and be great at cake decorating. WHY: Aiming for Success To me, being successful would be everything. I want to have a family someday and own a bakery. Success will keep those dreams alive. I haven’t been decorating cakes for very long, but I believe it got me on the right track. I finally started thinking about the future instead of the past. Before I thought about what I used to want to be when I grew up, and then I started cake decorating and realized what I had been wanting, wasn’t real. I loved cake decorating the first day I started. I feel like cake decorating brought me closer to my dad’s side of the family. At the Beirne family Christmas party we have each year, I was always the quietest one there. Now, everyone talks to me and asks what the Christmas cake looks like, or what I’m doing for the cake next year. My Aunt Terie and I almost always make cakes and cupcakes together. We’re really good at working together because we usually need each other. She’s the baker, and I’m the decorator. Together, we’re great at creating cake masterpieces. WISH 3: Dreaming of Better To make my dreams come true, I believe there’s one American-like thing that can help: an internship. According to businessinsider.com, “Every year between one and two million Americans work as interns.” Obviously, other people feel as though internships can help them too. As my third wish, I want to do an internship with Buddy Valastro so I can hopefully become a good enough cake decorator to own a successful bakery. Doing an internship could be the first step to becoming successful in your career. I believe anything is possible so I believe in doing an internship. WHY: The Outer Edges of the Puzzle An internship is the first piece of what I can see as being my career. Almost every person I know does the outside edges of a puzzle first. Buddy Valastro is my idol and is what got me into cake decorating. It would be an ultimate goal of mine to meet him and be able to learn from him. In my opinion, an internship is the last piece of the puzzle to being successful. My mom isn’t really thrilled with what she does for a living. I don’t want to be like that though. I want to be successful and able to do what I love so I grow old being happy. My mom's job has turned her into someone who goes to work just to get paid to make a living. She comes home and mopes around and complains about her work. But she didn't do anything in her childhood to get her where she wants to be. I don't want to be like that. I want to be able to go to work and come home with a paycheck and a smile on my face, not someone who mopes around depressed. This week we learned how to work in guided edits and full edits. In guided edits, we learned how to perfect a portrait, add a realistic reflection, use style match, apply LOMO affects and make pop art. In full edits, we learned how to recompose a photo and use the spot healing tool. I really enjoyed the LOMO affect the most this time. I liked the way the LOMO affect gave more to background of the picture. Most people don't see use for the background so they ignore it, but LOMO adds more of a cool affect. I might paint a picture of a bakery and then use the LOMO affect to give it a nice antique background finish. Richard Hamilton was known for the pop art idea. Cross processing is part of the LOMO affect and is an alternative dark coloring tool that is highly saturated. Applying a vignette darkens the edges and is part of the LOMO affect. I used the recompose tool on this picture. First, I selected the red mark for removal and then I painted over some of the background that had nothing to do with the picture. Then I cleaned up my lines with the erase highlights marked for removal eraser. I then finished by dragging the photo from the left, inward until the background was gone.
I used the pop art tool on this photo. First, I went to edit-guided-fun edits- and then selected pop art. I chose the first style, or the one that is four (different) solid colors and black. I then followed the instructions on the side by converting the image to Bitmap, adding color, and duplicating it.
I think my website turned out pretty good for it being the first one I've ever made. I think now that I have a better understanding of how to create one, I can make an even better website. My favorite feature is the quote and genie center picture. My least favorite feature is my banner. I would rate my website at an 8 because I think I can improve some things.
I really like Alana Matt's website. I think she did a really good job with her color scheme and tying the website together. Comic Sans is a font for younger kids, Times New Roman is a formal font and all fonts have their own personality. Comic Sans should be used for kids, not for formal letters. Times New Roman should be used for formal letters, not kids. I really like the font Bradley Hand ITC. It would be more of a kid font, than a formal letter font. I think it's a really unique handwriting. Bradley Hand ITC is a font that should be used for kids invites, kids assignments, or anything kid related.
